Although I finished this drawing last, I started on it before my other five works. Unfortunately I got bogged down filling in each rounded square with an avatar drawing. I made certain my drawings were varied. Also, I did my best to use cultural characters folks would recognize generally, and not to involve specific characters that belong to individuals.

Fox & Hound Random Color

This drawing was created using the same objects and drawing a grid over them. I then used random color to fill in the shapes created by the grid.

Naturally after working in black and white, I proceeded to try color. That is always more tricky. It is best for me to play a bit before trying to a final work. Here you can see how I played with the colors available to me.

Color Segments

Whenever I attend a National Art Education Convention, I like to try out product samples afterwards. Here is the first of several drawings made using products I picked up in the Showroom at this year's convention. Usually I work on them in my sketchbook. If I like a sketch enough, I might even turn the idea into a formal piece.

Artwork in Circulation

In March '06 many of the pieces on this blog were placed at the Friends of Rivertown Fine Art Gallery. In mid April '07 the gallery closed for good. Since then I have circulated the art to other venues around town. I've even entered some of the works in competition.

Although I have concentrated on the production of my dot artwork, I do plan to continue on this tangent I began in late '04 - that is keep what I do more random and continue to experiment. These works represent a different direction for me and I hope to continue it. Like most art I do, I just have to jump in and see what happens. Making art spontaneously is always more exciting. I don't who said it but it goes something like this: "If all you do is what you did, than all you'll get is what you got."

120 Colors

All 120 colors that came in the Prismacolor box were used to create this piece. So often artists are advised to only use a limited palette. In each square I blindly picked six colors to use until I went through the whole box. I then continued in successive rounds. It took a while to finish.

This piece has appeared in two shows so far. It also was in a competition at an artist meeting. It has generated a lot of positive feedback from artists and non-artists alike.
